That is either a 1951 or a 1953 FN action that was polished and blued by somebody else and put in a semi-inlet stock. That was how most engaged gun guys bought their first rifles. A Herters FN barreled action and semi-inlet stock were less that $150 and you built your own. That Sako trigger is probably a lever-sear trigger. They sold for $21 or came standard on some FN sporters and all Sako rifles before Sako started making actions, but Sako used several triggers including the M70 Win style.
The barrel contour looks to be Atkinson and Marquart but many copied it. The stock was home-made from a semi-inlet and by going through old American Riflemans you can probably find an ad for it.

Hi Guys, Just wondering, as a bit of a history nut, is there a web site or a way you can punch in the serial number of your K98 and learn a bit about it, where it was made and where it went, etc? Just bought a great 1937 pre-war example with all matching numbers, just wish it could talk, haha Cheers Chris Now, using my oija board, I can tell you it was made in 1937 at S243 (Mauser Borsigwalde - near Berlin). It was issued to Heer unit (Army).
It has a walnut stock with some battle scars, and otherwise brilliant metal. It's serial is coming to me. Yes, it's coming to me. 6.4.5.8.and a letter.
